KATU

…a dope visual artist who’s known for her cartoon character, KiD SOLR, and pop-art images. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Katu always had a passion for the arts. From her interests in dance, fashion, and illustration, Katu decided to take her artistic talents to the next level and found her love for painting, video editing, sculpting, and more.

As a self-taught artist, Katu knew that in order to be great, one must involve themselves in all things creative. She participated in various art shows in NYC, such as Pancakes & Booze, The NYC Grind, and appeared on a TV production series called LittleThingsTV, just to name a few! Katu is by far the next big thing to take notice of in the art world. She is a huge advocate for following your dreams and one thing you can guarantee is that she will not rest until she fulfills that destiny.

Get To Know Me A Little Better…

1.Who are your favorite artists of all time?

Oh wow, I have so many. If I have to narrow it down I would definitely have to say Frida Kahlo and Brian Donnelly.

2. How and when did you discover your passion for art?

I always knew how to draw at a very young age, but it wasn’t until I got to college and took a minor in Studio Art. I was involved heavily in school activities and during a fashion show that I hosted, I met a fellow artist. He was a designer in our show and we became really cool. After learning about him and seeing how passionate and confident he was with his art, he gave me the confidence to trust my work and take it more seriously; and so I did. Shout out to him, lol.

3. Where do you get most of your inspiration?

Music and Kid Cudi lol. There is not a day that goes by that I am not listening to music. Music honestly feeds my soul and brings out every emotion. I thoroughly enjoy listening to Frank Ocean, SZA, UMI, BAS, Joey Bada$$, Jhene, Nao, Summer Walker and more. Kid Cudi now, omg, he is the reason why I continue to do what I do. His music inspires me so much to the point where my art is influenced by his message. I do that because I believe he’s truly the only person that understands me and what I go through mentally. - Although I’ve never met him, I do hope one day I will so I can tell him how much he inspires me and if we can collab on a few projects lol.

4. What is your top 3 artists on IG that you enjoy following?

Only 3!? Sheesh, okay definitely @mcflyy…@suetsai, and @sew_trill, - omg! there’s just so many I want to say, but I’ll stick to those three for now.

5. If you could give a word of advice for aspiring artists what would it be?

The one thing I would have to say is that YOU have the power to create the life you want to live. Get out of your head of self-doubt and just simply START creating. Take a break from social media and really dive into your craft. And always remember that it’s never too late to start and/or start over. Throw age out the water, stop comparing, and do you boo!
